Muirfield Village 2008 Putting Green Installation

Even if you aren’t from the Columbus, Ohio area, the PGA Memorial Tournament is well known to any golfer. You may have not only heard of it, but attended it or regularly watched it on television from elsewhere in the nation.

Muirfield Village—the suburb that hosts the PGA Memorial Tournament—boasts a high concentration of golf-minded individuals. On numerous occasions, I have had the privilege to design and install residential putting greens at the homes in Muirfield Village.

This past summer, I had the opportunity to install a 2,000 square foot practice facility for the Muirfield Home Owner’s Association. The artificial golf green I installed is located near the swimming pools in front of the Association and is open to anyone who is a member.

The function and design of this practice golf green is unique. The putting area is elevated for different degree chip shots. The elevations range from ground level to approximately 4 feet. The upper putting green allows the practice of a straighter, more routine putt. The pitch of the lower putting green allows you to check the ball nicely. Each green rolls at approximately 10 on the stimp meter.

Whether it’s a Saturday afternoon with the kids or a relaxing exercise after work, the Association’s practice golf green can easily accommodate many families at once.

“It’s nice to just pull up and have it right there. I putt around a lot in the evening throughout the week even if it’s only for 20 minutes. It’s really helped my golf game. I can’t tell you the last time I had a 3-putt. The best part is my wife isn’t even a golfer and she’s been out several times too.” says Jeff Smith, resident of Davington Drive in Muirfield. It delights me to know that the Muirfield Village residents are enjoying the practice putting green I designed and installed for them.

I’m very excited to have installed a practice putting green in Muirfield Village, the home of the Memorial Tournament where only the best of the best are invited to play. The man himself, Jack Nicklaus, among others like Tiger Woods, Tom Lehman, Vijay Singh, Jim Furyk, round out the list of tournament winners.
